Diabetes (3/5): Oral Meds (Dirty Mnemonic) Pharmacology Insulin Resistance – Sulfonylurea, Biguanide

Diabetes Drug Families (non-insulin): Suck My Big Anally-Inhibited Glitoris SUlfonylUreas – tell the pancreas: U need
to release more insulin (sulfonAmides are Antbiotics) Mimetics – mimic natural hormones (like
incretin/amylin) that have similar functions to insulin. Biguanide – decreases the liver from making
more glucose. (The liver is a BIG organ) ANALogs (of glucagon-like peptide 1) –
Glucagon: A) immediately increases blood sugar by releaseing
stored sugar and B) eventually lowers blood sugar via feedback
to stimulate insulin release. A great drug would be LIKE glucagon’s eventual
“Function B” but NOT do “Function A.” That drug is a GLP-1 analog Inhibtitors (of Alpha-glucosidase)
Glucose-idase is an enzyme that cuts big sugars into the small sugars that float in your blood.
It’s the small sugars that cause problems. If you inhibit the glucosidase enzyme, you’ll
have less of these small, problem-causing sugars. Glitazones – affect “DNA use” – so you’re
less insulin resistant. Magical GLITTER changes your DNA for super
powers) HelpHippo: Help your Hippocampus

  1. This pharmacology mnemonic is…memorable. And useful – since you often adjust diabetes medications as the patient changes over time.

  2. It's like there was a conspiracy amongst the drug naming people to produce EXACTLY this mnemonic. If Metformin (the biguanide) doesn't work, I'll have no problem remembering the other drug classes!

  3. Can a mnemonic be too good? This pharm tutorial is stuck in my head and it will never be forgotten. (Which is good, because Type 2 diabetes is so common that health care professionals all need to have a ready familiarity with the topic.)

  4. This diabetes pharmacology mnemonic is fun and easy – a great way to remember drug classes for Step 1 or other standardized tests and exams.

  5. You should avoid wasting your time on common remedy with no guaranteed result, you need to heal diabetes yourself  by all-natural treatments.

  6. 🙂 this is super fun! i have a hard time memorizing anti-diabetic agents before, not now. thanks a lot!

  7. Lovely Video clip! Apologies for butting in, I would appreciate your thoughts. Have you considered – Patlarny Diabetes Ruins Principle (do a google search)? It is a good exclusive guide for destroying diabetes minus the hard work. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my cousin at very last got excellent success with it.

  8. This is the dumbest thing I've ever seen. There are much easier, self-explanatory ways to remember these facts.
